Busy Weekend!

I'll be in the Harbour Hotel this Friday night entertaining Intergroup and then I've a wedding on Saturday in Ennis in the Woodstock Hotel. I've also got a number of caricatures for birthday and retirement presents on the desk at the moment. It's no complaint and I'm keeping my framer happy!

Birthday Portrait

Recently finished piece for a birthday present, worked up to A2 size from an old photo of the subjects from when they were children (without revealing ages I believe it was circa 1970s!).
I forget sometimes being so reliant on inks that pencil itself is a beautiful medium, especially when you're working with a good range- I use B, 2B, 5B and 8B, starting with the hardest and working up to the softest, which corresponds with the darkest areas of the portrait. You need to be very careful when working with soft pencils as they smudge so easily.

I've just put up a new integrated shop on my website, Allan Cavanagh Arts. I put together the kind of things I'd love other people to read, such as this Calvin and Hobbes box-set (I've been a fan of this strip since I was a kid, and Bill Watterson's art was no small influence in my chosen career). My Generosity Knows No Bounds....

...Well, it's not many people that have their own currency drawn up for their birthday, is it? That's the great thing about caricatures- they make great last minute birthday presents! Considering I only found out it was my friend's birthday about two hours before I saw her, that's not bad going! I thought it looked quite good, despite the rush (and in case you were wondering, she works in a bank).
